Mark Loebus’s review published on Letterboxd:
From the first two notes of the Tomoshibi, I turned to my friend with a smile, seeing the exact same smile on his face. We knew we were in for a ride after seeing Clint Mansell in the opening credits. The score and music was really my highlight of the film and I couldn’t wipe that grin of my face for the whole time the music was playing.
Love Lies Bleeding has guts to experiment a little and makes decisions that weren’t really necessary for the plot, but bring so much to the feel of the film. It is als so much funnier than I expected it to be. The way Kristen Stewart and Katy M. O’Brian talk with each other, straight to the point with no bullshit, made for some excellent line deliveries. We attended the premiere, so the crowd was really great, gasping, laughing and screaming when the movie wanted them to do it. A good crowd enhances the experience so much.
The only thing that bothers me, which is no fault of the film, is the trailer. Don’t get me wrong, I love the trailer with Smalltown Boy, but it gave away so much of the film.
