Jesse’s review published on Letterboxd:
“How about some more beans, Mr. Taggart?”
One of the most rewatchable comedies of all time and it all comes from Mel Brooks’ ability to create satire out of any subject. Pushing the boundaries hard in 1974 led to many iconic sequences and characters. Thanks in part to his many screenwriters including Richard Pryor.
When I revisit most comedies, it’s the supporting actors that steal the show and that is most definitely the case with Madeline Kahn and Harvey Korman. I couldn’t stop laughing when they were on screen.
To say they don’t make them like this anymore is an understatement. Most comedies today are crude and over the top with zero substance. This film is crude and over the top but with PURPOSE.
