Learic Life’s review published on Letterboxd:
Stylish sci-fi film from writer-director Gareth Edwards has just enough story to be satisfying and stand up to the staggering visuals on display and seamlessly incorporated effects. John David Washington makes a compelling protagonist, showing a vulnerable side that gives his character depth. It’s easy to care about his journey, his feelings of melancholy, loss, and displacement, and his clinging to hope by a thread, while he grows closer and closer to the A.I. being by his side. While it seems like a tighter focus on storyline would’ve really elevated this to premier status, I’m looking forward to a rewatch to see if it hits different. Solid flick, but needed a bit more to stand out in the sci-fi cinemascape.
