  The Legend of the Lone Ranger 1981

  This is not the complete disaster I expected. The lead is a problem, and the Merle Haggard narration is bad, but everything else is pretty solid. I don’t think it took too long to get to him in the mask, which seemed to be the biggest complaint at the time. I get the intention to make this big like Superman, they just didn’t nail down the star.

  This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

  Yes it’s interminably long for no real reason and yes it’s incredibly emo, but goddamn if it’s impossible to turn away from. Even in its most self serious moments. Love the dreamy soft focus touch to many of the scenes. Love the detective elements and the entire wet vibe. Love that the big car chase has penguin stuck in immovable traffic. Love that The Riddler is some 4chan troll with 500 followers. 

  Did not love much of the Catwoman subplot, which might have been better in a sequel. 

  Seems the main theme is too many characters in Gotham have metaphorical and sometimes literal wings.

  The Banshees of Inisherin 2022

  ★★★★★ Watched 14 Dec 2022

  My favorite movie of the year. It is beautiful to take in, scenery painted by god. It’s funny and sad in equal parts, with too many incredible performances to narrow down.

  This will run you through the gamut of emotions. McDonagh can so easily slip natural humor into awkward or emotionally touching scenes. It’s about such a wide array of feelings and levels of strain and stress we go through to maintain relationships around us.

  Sometimes, we just need peace and quiet. Moving.
