You can have your Star Wars and your Avengers and so on: my favorite movie franchise will always and forever be Mad Max, and this will forever be my favorite of the series. 2 is more iconic, and Fury Road’s action scenes are unparalleled, but for me, this is the GOAT. Mel gets some real meat to sink his teeth into, the setting is the best of the series, the Lost Tribe bring real heart and depth to the underlying theme, and you’ve got Tina Fucking Turner batting a thousand.

I will watch all of the Mad Max movies until the sun grows cold, but none of them carry the emotional weight or deliver such a satisfying ending as Thunderdome.
