Just like everyone else here pointed out, Mothra is sort of a Japanese retelling of King Kong! While Godzilla was an angry animal getting its revenge on humans, Mothra just wanted her little twin girls back and returned home, and unlike the 1954 Godzilla movie, Mothra is more fun and lighthearted! The special effects directed by Eiji Tsuburaya are freaking awesome, just pure classic practical effects! Of course since the movie is directed by Ishirō Honda, it has themes on the evil of capitalism and how it hurts others. My favorite actor Hiroshi Koizumi is in this and he always gives strong performances, the Peanuts are iconic as the Shobijin! The music by Yūji Koseki is fantastic; much as I love Akira Ifukube I'm glad he didn't work on this one because we won't get the beloved Mothra song! Overall- It's an awesome giant monster movie! Still one of Ishirō Honda and Eiji Tsuburaya's best works!
