Refines and remixes everything that worked about the cult classic first. Close enough, welcome back Fast Five!

Yes, the family aspect is undercooked. Yes, it should’ve been about 30 min longer. But Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man, for all its flaws, is an inspired reinvention.

Christopher Abbott stands toe-to-toe with Lon Chaney, Jr., his tortured performance marrying perfectly to the visceral body horror Whannell brings to the table, along with the running thematic idea of cyclical parental failure, more specifically the animalistic protectiveness a parent will snap into despite their own better judgement.

Look, not all of this worked and I’m still kinda lukewarm on this but I feel like I could grow into really loving it. The vision is there.

A classic for a reason. Its only flaw is that I wanted more. Lon Chaney Jr. obviously the GOAT.

  • Queer

    Queer

    ★★★★

Queer moves with a suffocating loneliness that's only off-set by fleeting moments of romance. Luca Guadagnino's most peculiar film yet (and that's saying something) feels like a bit of a inverse of Call Me By Your Name in that it's from the perspective of an older queer man getting his heart torn to pieces by a non-committal younger flame, rather the other way around.

That's simplifying more than a bit, because Queer moves to an irregular rhythm of its own.…

This Brady Corbet guy is really good at making movies, huh?

Perhaps even more accomplished than Childhood of a Leader, the surreal, pervasively uncomfortable atmosphere radiating off of Vox Lux is intoxicating. I’m not sure if the sweeping attempts to address co-opting tragedy and the post-9/11 pop cultural shifts entirely come together, but it’s ballsy to even make the attempt.

As a portrait of a public figure caught in a never-ending cycle of struggling amplified by their fame, Vox Lux is all…

Nearly every one of my mutuals on here has rated this 2.5 stars. That rating just feels right. The most 2.5 star movie of all time.

My brother recommended this one to me and through that lens I couldn’t help but smile. This is basically Adam Driver fighting dinosaurs. No more, no less, take it or leave it yadda yadda yadda. I got what I wanted out of it.

Loved it then, love it now. Thanks to my partner Cat for gifting me the Blu-Ray this Xmas.

The perfect movie for a country that's rapidly eating itself.

    Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo

Classic sleeper hit comedy that succeeds because of all the funny stuff happening around Rob Schneider and by no means because of him.

"That's a huge bitch" is an immortal line though.

There are many brilliant people who will be able to analyze this in terms of its themes of repressed desire, grooming, S.A., or what have you.

I'm not one of those people.

All I've got to say on this one is it's a sprawling vampire movie with a pervasive atmosphere directed by one of the finest young filmmakers in horror working today, and that's good enough for me.
