Mulholland Drive

Mulholland Drive

“Silencio.”

I’m genuinely at a loss for words. No film has ever made me feel the way that I feel at this very moment. If I can try to describe it, it would be as if I were the one that has woken up from a dream, and I’m trying to remember and decipher the events that just occurred before it all slowly starts drifting away. Deep feelings of confusion and déjà vu are swirling in my head, making me dizzy. Within the first hour, I was so confident that I was slowly starting to understand what was going on even though I was still confused, but then everything started getting even more confusing until the end when my jaw was on the floor. Everything started to click, it all started to make sense. That quickly went away once the credits started rolling, and I’m just sitting here feeling like my 5–10 minutes of vividly remembering a dreams events like time is ticking and suddenly they’re up. Just like that, it’s over. This was the first David Lynch film I'd ever seen. I feel like it just opened a gateway to a different side of film for me to explore. I now understand why people praise it so much. Naomi Watts and Laura Harring were amazing. Truly incredible performances. I will be thinking about it for a long time. The emotion portrayed by these main leads were impeccable. Seeing Billy Ray Cyrus was absolutely shocking lol. Never in a million years would I thought to see him in something like this. After watching, I randomly came across this video which made me giggle. Another reason to thank David Lynch. There are so many key symbols throughout the film they’re so hard to ignore. It made me eager to understand what they meant. I remember a while ago I read this very detailed analysis of the film that I wanted to share because it was amazing. The score was amazing. There were certain scenes where the music would completely shift the mood to eerie and uncomfortable. With that being said, it’s so hard to even pick a favorite scene. There’s so many great ones. It’s the type of film that when it’s over you want to immediately rewind to understand. It’s a work of art. The feeling that you’re left with is similar to what we’ve all felt before. I never would’ve thought a film can spark this to feel so real and prominent.
