    In computing, a data structure known as a ‘stack’ is frequently used to model ‘last in, first out’ behavior. Like a stack of cafeteria trays, new items are added to the top of the stack, with consumers taking the most recently added item off the top. A stack is useful for tasks like memory management, parsing matching delimiters, and handling recursive scenarios.

    …anyway, this movie is eerily similar to my frequent stress dreams, in which I have a simple goal I can never achieve. Something’s always in the way, and before I can resolve one obstacle another suddenly appears.

    Loved it.

    The score is doing some heeaavvy lifting in keeping the tension up here. In some moments, I’m not sure it’s up to the task. Might have benefitted by being about 15 minutes shorter. But the colors and compositions, and especially the costumes and architecture provide plenty of visual joys to help us through the slow bits.

    Lots of great moments, and Ralph Fiennes is wonderful to watch. I loved seeing him navigate the spiritual and emotional dilemmas he encounters, and…
