James Grebey’s review published on Letterboxd:
The thing about the "Leo Pointing at the Screen" meme is that Leo's having a really nice time at that moment pointing at the screen. Let's not think about any moments before or after that one. Look at how happy he is recognizing the thing on the teevee!
For a movie whose humor and enjoyment are almost entirely derived from knowing the context that produced it (a thorough understanding of the past two decades of Fox movies made "in association with Marvel" is essential to the jokes, as is an understanding of at least one movie that was never made), Deadpool & Wolverine needs to be enjoyed in a context-free vacuum. No thoughts, only point at screen. It's enjoyable with diminishing returns! If I rewatch this I'm sure I'll lower my (not especially high to begin with) rating upon reappraisal but in the meantime, I wasn't not entertained. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not defending Deadpool & Wolverine as "a movie" because it's not really a movie so much as an experience.
