  This is incredible. Bleak, haunted, creeping. 
  Depp is FANTASTIC and she and Eggers give the role of Ellen/lead female in a Dracula film MUCH more backstory and agency than in any other version. Her great performance makes the ending even more compelling. There’s a thread of sexual abuse/toxic relationships in the way the dynamic between she & Nosferatu is played, which both modernizes this tale in its honesty and shines a light on generational shame & harm. Ellen is the center, not the devil who tortures her. I’m in love with this movie.

  At the same time beautifully powerful and low key. Gorgeous balance, meaningful exploration of loss and grief. I love it when sci-fi (much like horror) can dig deep into the human existence in a way that’s impossible for a straight drama. This movie is poetry.
