love this film so much! such a brutally honest depiction of addiction and how it can chip away at every relationship you care about. maybe the most heartbroken i’ve felt for an addict in any movie ever?? and that’s fully due to saoirse ronan’s really special performance here - my favourite performance of the year.

also really fell for the little tidbits of scottish mythology sprinkled throughout the film too. rare for a landscape to become a character of its own but the orkney islands won me over big time.
