This is the second Wes Anderson film of 2023 and this one just didn't click with me at all. That actually came as a bit of a surprise to me as I really liked Asteroid City, but I just found this one to not be that interesting, even with its short runtime.
The style has the usual Wes Anderson quirks, but that just didn't intrigue me that much on this watch. I liked how it was set up with the sets changing mid-scene which gave the movie a unique feeling and made me think about how this would work as a play.
The cast consists of only five actors with all of them playing two characters. I had no issues with any of them as they all give good performances as characters that can be interesting.
The biggest issue I had was the constant fast-paced talking and retelling of different stories. I just grew tired of that pretty quickly and at a certain point, the movie just got less and less interesting.
Still, if you aren't burned out on Anderson's work you will probably find this to be great, but I think I just want him to switch things up a bit, as his style is becoming a bit tiresome. Also, I just want him to make another animated film as that might be something that could reignite my love for his style, so please Wes, make another animated film already!
