“I want to see the real you“
Joker: Folie à Deux is a beautiful and dark film, but I think this movie has been misunderstood by most the audience for its layered narrative and the deeper symbolism within it cause I think its unique and something special but that said I definitely see why people are not enjoying the whole musical aspect but I thought it was really interesting and did further the plot at times. The sequel focuses on Arthur Fleck’s descent, overwhelmed by the Joker identity he created. It critiques how society glorifies violence and basically asking whether Fleck is a forgotten victim or a symbol of chaos.
Joaquin Phoenix delivers a phenomenal performance portraying Fleck’s unraveling with intense nuance. His raw emotions drives the film, making every moment insanely compelling. Visually, the cinematography is so stunning, using lighting and color to heighten the emotional depth.
While Harley Quinn lacks the depth fans might expect, the film continues the first movie’s themes of societal exploitation just showing how people use and discard the Joker for their own agendas. The musical numbers may feel unconventional, but they align with the film’s darker tone. Though it fails and seems useless in some areas, the film remains bold and thought provoking, exploring Arthur’s transformation and the mind of the Joker.
“We use music to make us whole. To balance the fractures within ourselves.“
