The world we grew up in is changed forever. There is no way home. This is the last winter

This is an interesting and sometimes frustrating film. I have heard nothing about it; I’m guessing it suffered as a lot of mid aughts horror films did from failing momentum. I watched it because who doesn’t love a film with the same setting as The Thing?

I don’t like most remakes because it cynically feels like a cash grab of an earlier…

First off, do i remember enough about the other alien movies to be irritated by how this allegedly rehashed things? No. I had fun and i was scared, especially at the creature design for the final boss. i love a dose of capitalism in outer space horror to prepare me for my future in a blue origin pod. WHY have i not seen David Jonsson in anything yet? holy shit he fucking eats up. his facial expressions are exceptional. The scoring,…

this is pretty ambitious so props for that. for some reason i thought this would take place in permanent darkness a la The Road and i think that would have improved the film. this has juicy scares and the last 40 minutes is the best part and has some beautiful shots. Samara Weaving is very good. i honestly needed them to lean into religion a little more and provide more apparent context clues. these are people who survived the rapture…

If I had never watched the original, I probably would have thought this was a solid thriller. Tldr; just go watch the better in every single way Danish version.

Just a side note before I pan, James McAvoy was excellent as always and Ant was particularly good for a child actor. I literally love McAvoy so much, he is outstanding, but it seems like he rarely does films that are worthy of his talents.

The og Speak No Evil was…

    “run!” *Walks really slowly upstairs*

Thanks for showing how incompetent police are. I had no clue this director was remaking their own movie?? This kind of reminded me of when you’re in a dream and you are trying to stop the monster but for some reason you can only flail your arms through jello. It was an enjoyable watch overall but felt like a student film, idk if it was my tv but i was really straining to see half…

I don’t feel fair rating this because i could not finish the last 30 minutes for how upsetting it was. super super slow burn and super downer. emma stone really has a good eye.

Yes i’m an eggershead but this was the best movie i’ve seen all year. The feeling of human powerlessness against dark omniscient forces…. in theater, watching this was suffocating and overwhelming in the best way. it conjures a perfect atmosphere and I was gripped beginning to end. Bill Skarsgård and Lily Rose Depp were simply unbelievable and I can’t wait for Skarsgård’s next monster.

    ★★

this movie was beautifully constructed and the soundtrack was spectacular. however, i just wasn’t captivated by this. I felt like the audience was held at an arm’s length from the story. there was just nothing here to care about. I wasn’t invested in Gawain, his failures, or his quest. the last ten minutes was the best part, but I was mostly bored until then.
