Where have I seen a perversion of liberation and independence thinly veiled by feminist buzz words and littered with pedophilic dog whistles? A place that deems sexual unshackling worthy of praise and the pinnacle of a woman’s freedom, paying no mind to any other momentous triumphs? A normalization of exploitation, excused from any concerns because we’re making fun of or chastising a “different audience”, one which actually benefits the most from such “absurdity.” What other examples could I possibly be thinking of?
Cuties
Euphoria
The Idol
Licorice Pizza
No Hard Feelings
Yeah, the patriarchy is still alive and well and rape culture has earned itself yet another extension in the pipeline for general audiences to blindly ride.
It’s a shame such gorgeous cinematography and set design was wasted on an abhorrent tale, almost functioning like a big bright bug zapper for cinephiles as well.
