Chris Kirby’s review published on Letterboxd:
Absolutely my fucking jam.
Four actresses from She is Conann are her playing four actresses who pontificate about their profession in relation to themselves. It always spirals out of control and seems to speak very deeply about common experience le of actresses (at least in Mandico’s world).
Long flowing monologues that ebb and flow and twist and turn and are always delivered with passion. Sets from She is Conaan lay the field around them and the interactivity between the actresses and elements of the film burn away any sense of grounding for the viewer to grasp into. We spiral with each actress.
It’s more dramatic as opposed to the comedy of Rainer and there’s a level of seriousness that lays over the film. But that layer of seriousness is also deeply unserious and show Mandico’s love for playing games inside his work that invigorate and repel in equal measure.
I don’t know if I can quite articulate it properly right now but this just hit for me. It’s like it was just checking off boxes for things that deeply interest or entertain me.
