Some of the stuff being done with the lenses here is otherworldly, with one particular example being in the apartment conversation between Scottie and Madeleine after the former rescues the latter from the Bay. Shallow depths of field rendering the background as flat as a rear projection while the subjects themselves stand isolated with one another on top of that projected surface, baring themselves through multiple layers of deception that tangle and snap at one another as they work through their miserable love.
