  It's rather ironic that the best animated rendition of the Indian mythological epic Ramayana comes from the Japanese anime community! This version embodies everything that Adipurush aspires to be, and I genuinely hope it succeeds, although my enthusiasm wavers after watching the teaser.

  Regarding this particular adaptation, it doesn't attempt to cover the entire epic in its entirety. Given the vastness of the storyline, it focuses on storytelling, which is beneficial, especially for those who are unfamiliar with the tale. However, it does omit some significant events from the epic that I would have loved to see included.

  What sets this adaptation apart is its modern interpretation while remaining true to the original source material. It presents certain aspects in a way that resonates with a different sensibility, allowing a wider audience to engage with the story effectively.

  Not without its issues of revisionism and careful sanitisation.

  But well-made and thrillingly told.

  They could have spent less than 1% of the budget of Adipurush to restore this in 4K and re-release in theaters.

  Yet, that would never happen. No one cares about quality.

  It's all about hoodwinking the masses for one weekend. That's it. Mission accomplished.

  Yo! It’s wild! That in 1992! India! And Japan! Neither of which countries’ first language is English! Made a film about a ~3rd century BCE Indian epic! In ENGLISH! THAT IS NO SMALL FEAT! And you’re laughing at the line delivery?

  Whole religions and cultures are based off this story and you’re laughing at the line delivery?

  The fact that this film exists is a miracle and you should be in awe. And? You’re laughing? At the line delivery?!

  Best adaptation?
  No.

  Too rushed, If I had not seen Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana, I would have thought of reconsidering. But because I've seen it... no, not at all.

  Heavily diluted, highly compromised, dishonestly sanitized but nevertheless focused as an anti-war film more than the epic itself, Ramayana : The Legend of Prince Ram can only be enjoyed when accepted for what it is than what it isn't. Hindi dubbed version will always remain the superior one due to its complementarity and a beautiful voice acting cast that does justice to the enjoyable but somewhat incoherent dialogues. A repeat viewing in an old age is essentially a comic affair, which I can explain (and possibly make you laugh out loud) if you sit with me to watch and discuss. Ramayana should be watched for its Japanese traditional anime visuals and Sanskrit album that remains unparalleled for much of Hindi cinema that followed. Ramayana shouldn't be watched if you are interested to know the story of Ramayana with a greater detail.

  Animation April Challenge  

  Finally. After immense procrastination for not finding the best quality anywhere on the freaking internet all these year. Made up my mind to watch it now anyways. The best I could find is some DvDRip.  

  Probably the best rendition of the most famous fictional EPIC of Indian mythology. Ironically from the Japanese anime! 

  PS they should release the 4K remastered version soon!
