SHIZAYA NATION WE ARE WINNING !!!!!1!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO UGGHHHHH I NEED MR NARITA TO MAKE MORE DUMBASS AU FANFICS OF HIS YAOI BOYS PLEEASSEEEE
Movie was fun I am very happy :3c
LOLOLOL ISEYA IS DEFINITELY IZAYA ORIHARA FROM DURARARA
i want to believe that this is the prequel of Kurayukaba. it shows us the period of time when the earth got mysterious holes in several spots, before it got occupied and become another civilization. and the conductors uniform is similar with Tanne before they become expert of the underground. but this movie comes with the exact pace of Kurayukaba so it reduces the shock aspect. our mappers character is interesting, especially the Izaya i mean Iseya one. THE ROBOT JIISAN IS THE ORIGIN OF ALL THE MECHA MACHINES DEF. other than that, its similiar to Kurayukaba.
It’s aesthetically cool, as the steam punk/Taishō-era vintage look reminds me of Poupelle of Chimney Town. Unfortunately the story skips a lot of world building and the main plot/character development felt too basic, so I had a hard time getting invested into the movie. There’s only so much you can do with just 60 min, but surely there could’ve been a better way to tell this story…
Narita rapidly having to turn his Shizaya au fanfic into a novella for a crowdfunding campaign and then they made a entire ass movie out of it lmao
Seriously though this was much better than the other movie in my opinion. This one is actually coherent! Some characters feel pretty irrelevant and he's clearly reusing characters/ideas from stuff he's made in the past (The information broker is named Iseya and the library he works from used to be called Kanra? He knows a strong man dressed as a bartender named Eiwajima? There's a girl who makes maps whose parents are dead?) but overall it's a fun Narita story which is exactly what I wanted and Narita clearly had a fun…
Same as Kurayukaba, more spectacle than narrative. But this one is more forgettable than the other is, sadly.
I loved the look and art style. Unfortunately, that is the only praise I can give this underwhelming and uninteresting anime.
This film probably has less to even grasp on compared to the first film, where there really is just way too much going on with absolutely nothing to grasp onto to remotely attempt to follow the storyline in any way. It’s definitely stylistically and aesthetically very cool, but that’s just about it.
Much of the film relies on the dialogue and the dynamics between the characters, but they don’t particularly feel vibrant enough for you to really care or connect with them either.
As with the previous film, I very much respect the ambition, but it just doesn’t quite come together in a way to make me particularly care for it one way or another.
Way too confusing, too much happens in a too short amount of time. The rhythm is quite uneven, the first half is a rather slow investigation with WAY TOO MUCH DIALOGUES omg, the characters just can't shut up... Then the second half is just... Chaos and it's hard to follow what's going on. The scenario is really original (even if I sense an inspiration of "Made in Abyss") but I'd have liked a longer movie but less rushed. Soundtrack is really good, really cute, but it's a Japanese animation so we are rarely disappointed with the musics. The animation itself is quite particular, it has a sort of hazy-dirty grain that I don't especially like even if I have to…
the creator of baccano delivers another cool world across 2 films. this is another one of his interconnected stories ft a crazy huge cast in a v detailed world but at just 1 hour it feels more like one of those anime recap movies that only shows off the highlights.
Hot Take: this one kept my attention slightly more than Kurayakaba for being consistently inconsistent.
Sure there isn't as much spectacle and the characters feel more lost in the chaos, mainly because they spend more time yapping about the worldbuilding in this one. But the editing isn't as headache inducing and I prefer Ryohgo Narita's kitchen sink method of writing over simply stumbling from one plot to another. Also they finally cast Ayaneru in a role that's just as sleepy as her irl.
