  Very solid, classic legal drama that appears to be a courtroom thriller, but is actually a moral and ethical puzzle box. Great performances in service of humble, confident direction by Eastwood. Nicholas Hoult plays a juror who realizes he has a very personal connection to the case he's been assigned to, and suddenly finds that two lives hang in the balance - the defendant's, and possibly his own.

  It's not a flashy film, and certain plot contrivances have to be accepted in order to earn the moral equation that drives it, but that suspension of disbelief is welcome when the questions are this compelling.

  incredible. up there with The Mule as my favorite Eastwood since Unforgiven/A Perfect World. so happy he worked long enough to make a movie in which someone says the word "podcast."

  This should get extra attention for two reasons: 

  1.) Clint Eastwood is 94 years old. 
  2.) This is the kind of movie most of us want and rarely get anymore.

  I could talk about this movie for hours. So glad everybody got to see it in theaters so I can do that.

  This week on Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer heads to Georgia to rescue Rowdy's Hideaway, a bar that's fallen on hard times after becoming associated with a controversial murder trial. Rowdy's is attracting the wrong kind of crowd: couples that love to fight in public and men tormented by an ethical deadlock that calls into question the very possibility of "doing the right thing" in a modern American society.

  Update - bumping this up, because it's really stuck with me over the past few days. The last scene is particularly haunting, a devastating portrayal of moral failure.

  Maybe Warner Bros. dumped this because they don’t want to remind people that this is what most movies used to be: Sturdy entertainments with a little subtext (in this case, the complicated relationships between morality, self-interest, and justice and how all of them weave imperceptibly through our legal system). If people see Juror #2, they might wonder why this sort of thing feels so rare now, when at least eight films like this used to hit theaters every single year. 

  I did think the third act needed one more scene to really hit home what Hoult’s character does and why. Otherwise, Clint makes this look so easy.
