  I’d always thought that Marilyn Monroe biopics would be so much better if they cruelly devoted several different scenes to her doomed CGI fetuses. starting to think I might have been wrong.

  I hated almost everything about this. It gets +1/2 a star for some cool dreamy transitions here and there; and Ana De Armas' acting was mostly good. Everything else was distasteful. A torture porn compilation of Marilyn's most horrific moments. The worst part being, it's based on a book filled with falsehoods making Marilyn's life out to be far worse than it was. Another ironic capitalization of a woman's life which was, and continues to be, endlessly exploited; and this one has a painful pro-life cherry on top. Multiple abortion scenes against her will when her real struggle was with endometriosis. There's a scene where her fetus begs for its life. It's gross using Marilyn's likeness to push a political talking point.

  I see FIRE WALK WITH ME mentioned a lot next to this and yeah, I totally hear that, but feel like it's a lot closer to LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST. Both are depicting the psychic and symbolic landscapes of deeply, troublingly mortal people who are also fully "divine," and the cruelty they suffer at the hands of those who make demands on one or the other version of them. Only in death do they fully transcend that state of being. Marilyn's conversations with her fetus(es) remind me completely of Christ's confrontations with Satan even if the semiotics are entirely different. Is this unsubtle, even pretentious? Yes, absolutely. But it's also neither the stomach-churning litany of abuse nor the agency-robbing faux-feminist diatribe you might have been led to expect. Good movie.

  I’ve seen plenty of NC-17 films but none of them triggered me like this. It’s the most disrespectful and offensive movie I’ve ever seen. If you love watching porn in movies, this is for you. She is basically a sex toy and constantly manipulated by various men. She is unnecessarily topless for a huge amount of screen time (Update: Total Topless Duration: 591 seconds 00:09:51). It’s painfully higher than normal. Like the director wants to see her topless deliberately.
