A town—where everyone seems to be named Johnson—stands in the way of the railroad. In order to grab their land, robber baron Hedley Lamarr sends his henchmen to make life in the town unbearable. After the sheriff is killed, the town demands a new sheriff from the Governor, so Hedley convinces him to send the town the first black sheriff in the west.

Not gonna lie, some of the super goofy jokes just... didn't work for me. This will make a stranger mad at me and I'm sorry about it! Love a good horse gag, though. Explosions sending a horse fifty feet into the sky? Can't beat that! This movie could NEVER be made today!!!!!!! (Multiple cast members are dead, film is expensive, horse unions, coronavirus)

Hedley Lamarr trying to get a student discount for a ticket at the Chinese Theatre is the best and most relatable thing I’ve ever seen.
The story of big business using racial division and other dirty tricks to try and steal an old western town, leading the inhabitants of which to end up forming a diverse coalition -- even including, incredibly, the Irish -- defeating the bad guys, and ultimately destroying the boundaries of their very reality.
Truly, truly great comedy doesn't just have the ability to make almost everyone who watches or listens to it laugh, but it also has the ability to make them laugh in different ways.
Or at different aspects of it. When I watch Blazing Saddles, what always makes me laugh most of all is the turn of phrase that so many of the characters have here. It's absolutely marvellous. A really good, original turn of phrase is something that I have always appreciated and enjoyed and something that I have always aspired to have myself. Look at these gems:-

You've probably heard that this movie has a lot of funny jokes. Well, I'm here to confirm that it does. Is it the unsurpassed pinnacle of comedy filmmaking that many boomers remember? I don't know. That's a heavy burden of expectation for a movie to carry. Your mileage may vary. All I know for sure is that if you tally up the number of funny jokes, it's a good number.
I'm sure that if you were a boomer in 1974 who grew up during a time when TV was 99% westerns, or even a slightly older person who grew up during a time when movies were 99% westerns, this movie's satire would have possessed a certain electricity that was particular to the time.
