Deadpool & Wolverine is two hours of high energy, manic, forth wall breaking mayhem. It's as if writers Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick got together for a Red Bull fueled weekend (and perhaps much, more---I'm thinking of Fear and Loathing level stuff) and hooked up to a machine that tapped directly into their id and allowed every bit of unfiltered stream of consciousness and violence to pour into the script. It's a no holds barred, attack everybody and everything orgy of verbal jousting. It's meme culture on steroids.
The story was, for me, confusing. I don't know my MCU and superhero backstories enough to clearly follow what was happening. I'm sure I was not adequately impressed by the cameos, the references, or the Easter eggs. I just strapped in and enjoyed the energy. This film was really about story anyway, it was one liners and intense blood and guts fight scenes.
Ryan Reynolds is perfect as Deadpool. Hugh Jackman is perfect as Wolverine. But Ryan Reynold carries this movie with the better lines, the better acting, and by bringing the most entertainment.
Mostly, it felt like this film had a deeper purpose. And that purpose was to make truckloads (or more accurately, a supertanker) of money for Marvel (and parent company Disney). But the movie acknowledges this within the movie...so at least it was forthcoming.
