Evan Zucchelli’s review published on Letterboxd:
Edward Yang captures pain, longing, anger, and sadness through so many different viewpoints simultaneously. Yi Yi forces the audience to sympathize with all sides of each story told. Very rarely does a film depict so many intricate and uniquely emotional situations at the same time. There is not one central narrative but instead many that interplay and overlap to give you a full view of what's going on.
