kind of terrifying how well this movie portrays the oceanic uncertainty that floods your soul when you’re young and lonely. you’re so acutely aware of the fact that you don’t know what’s going on in your own mind, let alone the people around you or the events of the world. all you can do is orbit people who seem like they have it figured out, and parrot the speech patterns of the adults around you in the hopes they will at least give you a seat so you can see what’s on the table. janet planet has a sense of breathtaking scale, despite constraining itself carefully to the tiny footprint of one little girl.
