Bodies Bodies Bodies

Bodies Bodies Bodies

“Why do you call him G.I. Joe?”
“Have you looked at him?!”

This movie’s hilarious, and a real freakin’ trip. As each character gaslights each other and further escalates the situation, feelings get hurt, tears are shed, and (dead) bodies hit the floor. I’ll have to say, some great direction throughout from Halina Reijn. Don’t want to spoil, but I love how she had each actor play their role.

“He’s a libra moon!”

Bodies Bodies Bodies keeps you guessing for a long time (or it least it had me fooled for a bit). It’s more importantly about the characters and all the masking and lying they each do. This movie plays out the worst possible situation that could ever, EVER unfold from playing Mafia, Secret Hitler, or anything similar.

“Well I just look like I fuck, you know what I mean? I look like I fuck. And that's the vibe I like to put out there.”

Shoutout to Sarah DeLappe’s script, which was pretty rad: apparently the original draft was more of a traditional slasher and didn’t have many signs of “Gen Z.” DeLappe’s genre subversions and specific callouts to contemporary culture were… pretty dope. The more piercing moments of the movie were the verbal lashings between characters, it felt, compared to the actual killings.

Great cast, but my faves were def Rachel Sennott and Lee Pace. Not sure how many more times Sennott will / should do this type of role, but if she keeps finding the right projects: do them! She was freakin’ hilarious and so committed.

When the Charli XCX bop plays out during the credits, I knew I just experienced a fun time at the movies. It won’t be for everyone, but if you like hyperpop and some good contemporary satire, goooooooo seeeeee it!
