Christina’s review published on Letterboxd:
It has been argued that 1994’s universally panned North was Rob Reiner’s attempt at creating a timeless children’s fable like The Wizard of Oz. Its failure is even more egregious when one realizes that, with The Princess Bride, Reiner had already succeeded. This is arguably his most beloved film (perhaps tied with Spinal Tap), boasting a tight script, memorable characters and impressive practical effects. Mandy Patinkin is particularly impressive as Inigo Montoya, channeling his real-life grief at his father’s untimely death into Inigo’s quest to avenge his own father. The conclusion to his duel with the villainous Count Rugen might be my favorite moment in the movie, with that context in mind.
