When I was 6 years old I loved this movie so much that I watched it just about every single day. This included the morning before I went to my regular pediatrician check-in, where I was informed that I would have to take a Vision Test. ’Vision’ meant to me that they would read my mind (à la psychics and clairvoyants that I saw on screen). The concept of having my mind read terrified me. Not for any of the understandable reasons you’d think, but because my very favorite movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, was PG-13. I was only 6. Surely while probing within the darkest corners of my mind, the doctor would catch this discrepancy- this utter crime- and I would henceforth be banned from watching Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest for 7 years until I was of proper age. At the mere prospect of this movie being locked away, I was overcome with panic and ended up locking myself in the doctor’s office bathroom until the adults promised I no longer had to take the Vision Test. I went home and finished the movie.
