Evan “Raymond Gun-Virus” Pincus’s review published on Letterboxd:
Not really convinced that the Final Cut is the definitive way to watch this- c'mon, I get why Francis wanted the French plantation scene in there (and golly is it gorgeous) but it's really not the time or place for a forced romance or, uh, dialectical logic. A lot of the weirder jokes added here go a long way towards building the surreal atmosphere, for sure, but this is less a final cut and more of an unnecessary tweak. Big "but," though- if you like the movie, you should see this in theaters in IMAX- one of the few things I can imagine being worth the ridiculous ticket price. I walked out of that theater a changed man, baptized in sweat and mud and shit and blood and oh god the blood and river water and it's all the fuckin' same thing. Out of all the seemingly impossible feats this movie pulls, making me really like The Doors will always be it's most impressive.
