I feel like praise for this film is redundant at this point, but it's just incredible. To make a multiversal film with tons of exposition (that is done brilliantly well and maybe isn't getting as much praise as it should) that also acts as one of the best character studies in years, with every main character getting their due, that is also incredibly funny, creative and heart-warming is a real genuine achievement, and I feel very strongly that this will win Best Picture at the Oscars this year. Occasionally there are films that just feel exactly right for the year that they're in - Moonlight in 2016, Parasite in 2019 and Nomadland in 2020 all felt like they fit that bill, and I feel this does aswell. The performances are also phenomenal - I feel Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan both have chances to take home Oscars this year too, and they nail both the dramatic and comedic elements of the film. And, after being disappointed with the multiverse in Doctor Strange 2, it's nice to watch a film that fully utilises its premise to bring out the best in the dramatic beats of the film. The only reason it isn't 5 stars is because I think the ending is ever so slightly bloated, but it's still nearly completely worth it given how well done all the setup is. Overall, I was amazed by this film despite my already high expectations. I'm really glad I got to see this in theatres, and if you haven't seen it I fully recommend you do the same.
On another note, my GCSE's start tomorrow. Feels weird to say that given how long its been since I started the courses, but it's unlikely I'll watch much of anything outside of the odd cinematic release (Men/Lightyear/Jurassic World perhaps). I'm sure I'll get to make up for the lack of films over the summer regardless.
