The remake of Road House uses similar story beats, but changes everything around.
Jack Gylenhaal's Dalton is a wreck, a suicidial and broken man, who see's an opportunity to get up again when he gets the job offer as a bouncer.
He's a former MMA fighter who killed some dude in the octagon and is haunted by it.
This gives him as a character an all new background that's never really used.
Gylenhaal is ripped as hell and has a lot of charming and sarcastic moments.
While his character could have used more depth, he really gives his best to deliver a great performance.
I liked Magnusen as main villain who seems to be the spoiled kid that wants to proof to his father that he's a real man.
While written as a really standard bad guy Magnusen tries to put his own spin on it and made this character more human.
Connor Mcgregor as batshit crazy henchman might be one of the highlights of this film.
He's not really acting, but how he plays the character is really fun.
Like a wild beast he destroys everything that stands in his way, or he does it with no reason, he's just a psychopath
The action scenes are brutal and have impact.
Punches, kicks, grappling, it's all well choreographed and very violent.
The sound design is great, every punch feels like a knockout.
The story itself is ok but thin, it's better not too ask too many questions about it.
The love story is less engaging and sweet as in the original, but it could be worse.
The sountrack is fun but can't compete with the original.
The Road House remake is dumb fun, with great action, a ripped Jake Gylenhaal and an insane Connor Mcgregor.
