Filth

Filth

Have you ever watched an actor give a performance that means you can't look at him in the same way ever again? I'm a fan of Eddie Marsan, he's played a variety of small but effective parts in a host of different genres both for major studios and independent filmmakers alike, but one role left an indelible impression that I've simply never been able to shake. If you've seen Paddy Considine's Tyrannosaur, you'll know the repulsive performance I mean. Olivia Colman should have had an Oscar for her role in that incredible film, but Marsan's violent husband was the stuff of nightmares. I've tried to get past it, because he's a great comedic actor too, and here in Jon S Baird's black comedy he shows us another side to his talents. He's second fiddle to James McAvoy's role of a lifetime, but once again Marsan doesn't let us down.

Filth is a headfuck of a film, it has so many different facets that make it such a compelling watch, but be warned, it isn't for everyone.
