  There’s a campy artifice (Gerard Butler’s tough guy demeanor, the way it’s set in L.A. but is so clearly shot in Atlanta or Louisiana) that can read as charming sometimes, but just didn’t work for me the longer it went on. My mom loved it though.

  My parents played this movie three consecutive times while I was at their house to escape the terrible air quality in L.A. Moby’s “Extreme Ways” does hit different.

  Fizzles out in real time. There’s sex in this movie, but it lacks desire. I used to think Eggers was one of my guys, but that’s only because he’s obsessed with the directors who actually are my guys. Why watch this when we have Bram Stoker’s Dracula at home?
