Dave Holloway’s review published on Letterboxd:
It’s a work of staggering cinematic skill - both technically and narratively. Even if it leaves you a bit cold, and it did leave me a bit cold, there is no denying the meticulous and otherworldly ability Nolan has to tell complex and enormous stories so clearly and so beautifully.
This really is filmmaking on an extraordinary scale and the talent in front of and behind the camera is astonishing - you can feel the movie vibrate off the screen. It moves at a relentless rate, sometimes too fast to let you gather all the requisite information, but that matters less as this is movie that imprints itself upon you. Not always with detail, but with sheer force.
It’s not perfect - there are a few unintentionally funny moments, sometimes the editing feels like an hugely extended expositional trailer - but these are overwhelmingly outweighed by the performances, score, cinematography and Nolan’s genuine ability to communicate a story.
Hooray for IMAX.
