Hallucinating, sobrenaturally deep with explosions of serotonin would be words that perfectly described my experience with “Queer” as it was a whirlwind of strong emotions, inner concerns and a lot of shivers through my spine as the rhythm of this film can easily put you on some certain mood and then changed abruptly into a whole different atmosphere. This subject is nothing new or anything we haven’t seen before however “Queer” managed to woke up all my senses, is as captivating as is mortifying, a peculiar journey of self discovery, possession and imprudence that lead to unique and unexpected pathways that come with life changing turn of events and resolutions that are not the most optimal or organic but as we know when we fall in love it tends to be a outrageous stage of life. Visually masterful with a groundbreaking soundtrack that sets the tone of this difficult yet mesmerizing story situated on an ancient Mexico. All the details like costume designs, locations and components were beautifully displayed and put together, not gonna lie it made me desire for those looks and to elevate my sense of fashion thanks to this fabulous approach. “Queer” can be soaked of impurities and this somber and candid feel to it nonetheless is also full of heart and curiosity, is a delicate topic since prejudices had always been the root for all fears and insecurities of our persona, thanks to those labels society is afraid to be true to themselves and sadly I doubt those stigmas are going to disappear completely but certainly we can improve on that mentality. “Queer” is insanely abstract and powerfully visceral, for me personally it was unconventionally ambitious and hard to swallow at several times but I appreciate that it didn’t loose this human touch that for me made it even more sincere and personal, I think is easy to identify with this struggles, having this consuming doubts, having this ephemeral heartstrings that might feel like everlasting love according from that current naive blindness that end up with fractures from the past that are a hard time to heal. Daniel Craig performance is brilliant, all the layers and this questionable nature of Lee is just so hauntingly extraordinary to witness, you can tell Daniel gave his all on this immaculate portrayal that had such a important weight on the narrative and that made it even more genuine, Drew Starkey was also great as this more younger, reckless and ambitious character, such remarkable performances overall but the cherry on top was definitely Craig as in my opinion is one of the best performances on a movie from 2024. “Queer” can be depressing and joyful at the same time, is so well balanced on tension and roguery, on romance and desbeliefs, on erotism and the desire of a intimate soulmate, surprisingly disgusting but effective. This is the vively proof that when we are madly on love we are not tuning with our five senses or with our common sense, is such a dark time, challenging and heartbreaking, oh I had been on that intriguing position… unfortunately I remember it all to well… so DAMN well. Certainly life doesn’t prepare us to enter on a emotional detachment zone, is always bittersweet when we try to be on constant escapism from people that doesn’t enrich us, sadly that’s life. Breathtakingly weird piece of cinema. Hands down one of the best films released this year, another home run from Luca Guadagnino as frankly this is my fav film I had seen from his intricate filmography so far. I’m still covered on chills doing this reflections.
