Little Miss Sunshine

Little Miss Sunshine

Is just insane how weirdly inspiring “Little Miss Sunshine” is for me. Beyond cathartic and somber yet full of life and wholesome moments, showing us that there is nothing more valuable than being authentic to ourselves. This film feels so human and raw, spits reality and the struggles of a family with inner struggles that kept developing during this endearing? tragic road-trip. What I appreciate about this film are the topics that are adressed and that we battle constantly during our daily lives like the frightening subject of being a winner or a loser on life, as harsh as that might sound, the truth is that a real winner is the one that show up everyday and never give up, never gave excuses and despite maybe going against the flow demonstrate that perseverance and resilience are the key for success, no matter how insignificant or big the prize end being. Other topic that is stunningly addressed is the self steem, how we are eternally worried of the critiques, the outcomes and that we are never satisfied with our essence or what we are capable of, I frankly believe that they’re always going to be ups and downs, moments where we are hesitant of our paths and if our dreams are maybe obnoxiously enough to achieve them, however we will never know if we don’t take a leap of faith in an attempt of following our hearts, find our own voice or more ambitiously conquering the world since is possible. The cinematography is gorgeous, the visuals are just mesmerizing, dazzling and so vibrant, is impossible not to take the eyes from the screen without contemplating the landscapes that combined with the scenes of joy but also with the scenes of misfortunes. The acting is spectacular here, such a talented ensamble by actors like Steve Carrel, Toni Collete, Paul Dano and the charming Abigail Breslin, they’re all part of this disfunctional yet lovely family that made me learn that there is nothing more precious than sharing a home and a life with loved ones. Maybe some moments might felt questionable especially the dance scene that is cringy asf but the purpose behind that embarrasing fest is strangely beautiful and it was so special to see the family united to support a innocent Angel. We all should be like Olive and even though she didn’t had the “right size” or “charisma” that a supermodel must possess, she proved that she was brave to follow what her soul desired. “Little Miss Sunshine” is a breathtaking adventure of self discovery, how cruel life can be but showing us that despite life being so painful is also covered of laughs, memories and define moments that we are certainly never going to forget. This film is oddly heartwarming, is insane from start from finish, uncomfortable yet clever, is just what cinema needs, more honest messsages. The fact this was a debut film makes it even more impressive, Easily one of my fav movies released on 2006. “Little Miss Sunshine” you’re weird but I appreciate you so much.
