Was taken aback by how engrossed I was while watching it. Unexpectedly entertaining, eerily thrilling, and surprisingly brutal, especially as it surges into the third act.
There's an astonishing level of filmmaking technique to appreciate here. Namely the uninterrupted ten-minute long takes, the fiercely powerful performances, the exquisite black-and-white cinematography, and the ferocious crescendo in the final moments. It took me a while to recognize that the movie was shot from a first-person POV. I kept searching for the protagonist, only to realize that we are the protagonist all along.
There’s no denying the film’s sheer technical ingenuity. Especially the inventive camerawork that is nothing short of groundbreaking. It is undoubtedly an audacious, revolutionary, groundbreaking & monumental achievement that feel wholly earned.
And yet, for some reason, I just couldn't connect with it. Maybe it was the POV perspective…
Not gonna lie, but this was a chore to sit through. And yes, i can see that this is definitely not for everyone because for the runtime of 3 hour 26 minutes, it was painfully long, it drags a lot too, i fell asleep probably like 5 times i guess, and i felt so happy when the movie was over. But tbh when you look past on that, this was flawless & you can't deny the technical brilliance & the well written…
Gnarly, intense, galvanizing, visceral, fearlessly gruesome, with stakes higher than ever, YESSS Alien: Romulus is LEGITIMATELY petrifying in every conceivable sense! Creating palpable sense of impending terror that’ll shiver down to your very spine! Forget about the morbidly designed Xenomorphs; the real battle is trying to stay cool whenever Cailee Spaeny is on screen. Every time she takes charge, my heart skips a beat—who knew terror could be so irresistibly attractive? And I would solemnly pledge allegiance to her even to venture into the abyss of space solely to wield her flamethrower!
