Vertigo

Vertigo

Vertigo is genius.

The film starts with an uneventful first half, where u are lulled into thinking it is a mysterious romance but as things start to unwind and suspense starts to grow, it ends up a horrific thriller about obsession.

Hitchock's crime plot is a well fabricated lie. What he is really interested in is his characters psychological condition, not the violence. He really tricks u and thats genius and brilliant.

I was actually taken aback from Scottie's decline of sanity and i really, really enjoyed that. We watch as our hero, a former police detective, turns into a "grey" protagonist and becomes possessed by primal instincts, his obsession. He prefers loving this elusive version of Madeleine, a distant ghost woman, than actually seeing the real Judy. To the point he makes a replica of her. "It cant matter to you" he says at one point to Judy. Similar with men's view of women as only an embodiment of their desires than actually human beings with feelings. They all prefer loving their own makeshift fantasy.

Someone here described Hitchock's portrayal of Midge as tender yet brutal. And thats exactly what it is. Eventhough she appears as the only person in Scottie's life to genuinely care about him, he appears unfazed by her. She is doomed receiving his indifference as she not fullfills his ideal type of woman. "We where engaged once" he said without much care while she appears heartbroken. Even her way she dresses, her mannerisms intensify this mommy figure she ends up being to him.

Im obsessed with the intro, the vertigo shots, the dream sequence, the stunning cinematography , the special effects, everything. Hitchcock managed to make vertigo a real nightmare. He was fr so ahead of his time.

As my first time watching Hitchcock i didn't know what to expect but vertigo was definitely an experience i loved it.
