Poor Things

Poor Things

In the past, I used to be a massive fan of Lanthimos' work, but as I’ve grown closer to God and deepened my understanding of His teachings and His Holy Word, I’ve come to recognize the perverse, disturbed, twisted, despicable, depraved, and reprehensible nature of Yorgos Lanthimos' mind.

Romans 1:28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

I initially felt quite excited about this film, drawn in by its stunning visuals, meticulous production design, refined costumes, and captivating cinematography, not to mention Emma Stone's remarkable performance, arguably the best of her career. As a matter of fact, I actually enjoyed the film’s eerie soundtrack.

But man oh man! What a pity!

After watching the film, I erroneously found it to be quite artistic. Yet, upon profound meditation and contemplation, I arrived at the conclusion that this film is, in fact, repugnant. Watching this crap, ranks among my greatest regrets of last year, and I pray for forgiveness for exposing myself to watch an affront that counters the teachings of God’s Word. May God forgive me for watching this absolute piece of junk!

The plot, is utterly detestable and antibliblical. There's no justifiable reason for this film's existence. It’s made to promote fornication, sexually immoral behavior (lesbianism, prostitution, orgies, erotic fetishism, masochism, etc), a liberalist lgbt agenda, sinful feminism and women hyper-empowerment (all against God’s Word).
It’s crucial to understand that, while the film purports to be about sexual liberation, it ends up being an exercise about hideous and heinous sexual perversion and depravity.

I used to appreciate The Favourite for its beautiful cinematography and impressive performances, and I even own a copy of the film. The screenplay is somehow atypically intelligent and ingenious. However, upon reflection and in alignment with my faith in Christ Jesus, I realize that I should not support any type of content that goes against God's teachings. While the film (The Favourite) is well-crafted there was absolutely no need for it to be an lgbt film. It could’ve been a perfect heterosexual film and avoided God’s wrath. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same thing about Poor Things, because even if we take out the lgbt scenes, it’s still a depraved, loathsome and abominable film.

Colossians 3:5-6 5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Romans 1:26-17 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Matthew 19:4-6 4 He answered (Jesus), “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

I genuinely would like to pose a forthright inquiry to Yorgos Lanthimos: Wasn’t ripping off the Mexican masterpiece, El Castillo de la Pureza, (crafting a detestable plagiarized film) enough to satisfy your artistic endeavors?
On top of that, Poor Things also borrows numerous elements from James Whale’s wonderful masterpiece Frankenstein, and does so in a manner that is disrespectful, futile and laughable. Yorgos also, shamelessly, steals elements from Frank Henenlotter’s Frankenhooker; pretty disgraceful not gonna lie.

Lanthimos exhibits a pretty perceptible inconsistency in his writing styles. Sometimes he demonstrates the capacity to produce excellent work, while at other times his output is markedly mediocre and subpar.

I’m gradually becoming more and more of a God-fearing man. I’m a devout Bible-believing Christian living a daily process of God’s sanctification, striving to live under God’s righteousness and guidance, equally striving to live a Christ-like God-honoring life.
Now, films like Poor Things ought to be inadmissible in my life.

Matthew 7:17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Galatians 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

We ought to understand that Christ’s name is above any other name! Glory be to His name eternally!

Colossians 3:1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
