Finally saw this with my buddy, I love John Carpenter flicks and it was great seeing both him and Kurt Russell return to dystopia usa, this time everything is bigger- badder - and sillier!
Escape from L.A. has a still grizzled Snake Plissken - older and more tired of everyone's shit. Im tired of steve buscemi by the end of this one, he should've splat when they flew in hang gliders. Man do some effects look terrible which is unfortunate when peeps talk about this movie because; While EFNY was filled with more tension and the blue glow on the desolate streets blocks that run for miles made alive with strong camera work.
EFLA has huge dense dynamic sets with lots of extras! There's tons of shots with so much activity happening in the background of these post apocalyptic ruins of LA filled to the brim with punks in leather and hot LA babes. Its nuts!
The effects are cheesy as hell and it feels like the same technology from the last film only much more advanced looking(90s), plenty of mattle backgrounds but there's some lovely wide shots of Snake in this chaos. Oh yeah they gave this man Money, too bad the plot is almost a repeat of the first flick.
Yeah lots of similar story beats expect done more sloppy and fast. Theres cool moments/characters here that get brushed aside fairly quickly but I really can't say I was disappointed since theres still plenty of thrill to be had, and the action gets ridiculous at times.
Snake has to ball up or get smoked by a firing squad and this scene fits the whole movie, stupid but fun and maybe abit too long. It's fun to laugh at the bad effects too like that super helicopter, Snake Plissken is still great and probably the best part of the film- tho I did like the surfing part. The whole background earthquake showing the destruction of California is nuts too. I dug soundtrack and especially loved the intro title sequence, while not as good as snake's first outing, I had a blast escaping L.A.
