Starting off with the best thing about this movie, it feels like a massive “f*ck you” to the incel Joker worship that spawned from the first film and I loooove that so much (no I’m not calling you an incel if you like the first film or even if you like the character, I like the first film and I like the character, Joker just became a figurehead for incel culture which goes against the entire point of the first film)
I love how many wild swings this movie takes and I wish more Hollywood films weren’t afraid to do this, the film just unfortunately doesn’t commit enough to any of the risks it’s taking, I particularly wish it went even harder with the musical elements but I also understand why they didn’t as there was a group behind me in the cinema that would audibly groan every time Joker or Harley began to sing.
Ultimately this film doesn’t quite come together but it should be commended for being so wildly different to every Hollywood sequel currently being put out in the modern studio landscape.
