Rear Window

Rear Window

When Jeff and Stella get distracted by Miss Lonelyhearts and suddenly Thorwald is walking down the hallway back to his apartment with Lisa still inside... You can hear the thousands of short breath cries from the theater audience in your head. It is such a quiet moment but it's the crackle and pop breaking point for the audience under the tightening of the suspense. All of a sudden everything has come to a head and there's nothing Jeff - nor you - can do about it except watch.

Roger Ebert once said, "When an enraged man comes bursting through the door to kill Stewart, we can't detach ourselves, because we looked too, and so we share the guilt and in a way we deserve what's coming to him." This sums up just how immersive the film is. Also, morbid curiosity mends true love.
