i don’t often think about early high school, but this film has gradually brought it out of me. you just forget; at least i did. i didn’t love high school, and i tend to forget things i don’t love. it’s just the simple times, the heartache, the thoughts, the people — everything is so new and pure when you’re a fresh teenager. then it slowly fades when you become older. i mean, i’m not exactly out of my teenage years…

Raw 2016
if i’m going to do this, let’s do a quick rundown up to this point. a few years ago, i watched raw for the first time. being a huge fan of earlier new french extremity even back then, there were a lot of similarities, so i enjoyed the film, but i didn’t love it. now, fast forward a few years, i finally get to watch titane (slightly late to the party), and i was completely shocked to find out i…

Smoking Causes Coughing 2022
“smoking sucks. it causes coughing.”
last night i closed my eyes and almost fell to sleep, but then i remembered this film existed, so i had to wake myself up and watch it. smoking causes coughing is satirical perfection, and quentin dupieux at his absolute finest. he is in fact getting better and better with every film, and im beginning to look forward to absolutely everything he does. this is such a delight, i seriously wish it would just never end. although the ending works extremely well and i liked it much more this time.

Anora 2024
you could hear a pin drop during those credits; not a single person moved or spoke. what a journey of emotions, from laughter to anger to tears. with yet another dear, moving and one of a kind film by sean baker. i mean, wow. if you know me, you know i haven’t been able to shut up about anora, and then it went and won the palme d’or. i knew this was going to be very special, and beyond special it…

The Holdovers 2023
there’s been many disappointing films this year and only a select few has actually clicked with me as much as i hope for. however, between the holdovers and anatomy of a fall my perspective of this year has changed completely.
the holdovers was just so delightful, and the biggest surprise of the year. my eyes were completely glued to the screen. this has such a compelling narrative which tugged at my heart. the performances were so strong and the chemistry between…
