Simply excellent, one of the most impactful family movies I've ever seen. Don't be fooled by this (and put it off, like I did) because you think this is a wrestling movie. It's not—it's a family movie which features a handful of wrestling scenes. You don't need to like or understand wrestling to appreciate basically every ounce of this film.
The cast and performances are superb. An all-star cast, full of some of my personal favorites (especially Maura Tierney and Holt McCallany), drawing from some of TV's best actors of the last decade. Career best work from Zack Efron, in addition to one of the wildest physical transformations I've ever seen for a film.
On an emotional level, this is just utterly devastating. It absolutely blew my mind after watching the film when I learned that the real life stories are even more sad that what is depicted here. I don't disagree with the filmmaker's choice to omit who and what he did, but I do recognize how tragic that is at the same time.
This instantly goes to the top/near-top of all sports/movies featuring sports list. The emotionality felt in the performances here will still with me for a very long time.
