Calvin Kemph 🤠’s review published on Letterboxd:
I’ve always held space for horror movies. Whatever they’re rated, I’ll ignore that, and watch them. Whatever I’ve heard, I don’t care. They’re horror movies. I’ve been around the rental horror section hundreds of times. I’ve seen almost a thousand horror movies. I know what I’m in for.
But! I’m suddenly reevaluating this position. Must I see everything? Truly, I watched Blood and Honey because I know there will be more of them and some off-shoots. The IP-exploitation is only a flimsy secondary reason.
It doesn’t do anything for me that these are those characters from Winnie the Pooh because there is no further imagination here. They just are those characters but murderous — if there is any pre-instilled weirdness in the Hundred Acre Woods, the movie has no idea about it. The Heffalump movie is more frightening, ask my daughter about her nightmares about them.
So, there will be an expanded Poohniverse. I’m not against it. I’d just say there’s no merit to this first entry. The funniest thing to do would be to make one of these a good horror movie. Until then, it has me reevaluating: is there a cynicism big enough to keep me from watching any horror movie? Probably not, but this is the first time I’m truly wondering.
