Finally saw the movie after seeing the trailer enough that I feel like I can recite it from memory. Thankfully the movie was actually good! James McAvoy crushed it as did the other cast members. Good pacing where you are slowly reeled in until the turn. And you can likely can sniff out some of what is going on but it keeps its darkest secrets well hidden making the true realization of what’s going on all the more disturbing. Lot…

Strange Darling 2023
Damn this one was good. I really feel like it was nearly flawless too to bottom. Insane that Giovanni Ribisi was the DP because holy shit it looked so good. Incredible performances from Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner. Great score and original music. A banger from JT Mollner that’s such a fun watch. I want to see it again as soon as possible. Couldn’t recommend more. Loved this one.

Deadpool & Wolverine 2024
Fun popcorn movie and overall good especially for its genre. Very cool for someone who grew up watching the old X-men movies with Hugh Hackman to see him do one final ride. I know Logan was probably the perfect end to that character but this does a good job of not tainting the legacy that was already established by that movie. Yes it was filled with cameos, but most of these were actually good and made sense and not just…

Blink Twice 2024
I thought this movie was really good, but I really disliked the last 5 minutes of the movie. I wish it would have ended differently because the final scene somewhat diminishes the rest of the film in my mind. Really loved everything else about it and thought that otherwise it was an awesome directorial debut from Zoë Kravitz. Great acting, fun and funny, thrilling, and deeply disturbing. Excellent commentary on some of the events that have come to light of…

Incendies 2010
This was a devastating watch. I was so absorbed by how horrific the violence was I didn’t fully pick up on how horrific the story was playing out to be. The message of this one cuts very deep, like the graphic nature of much the experience of Nawal. The acting was superb, by all involved. I’m stunned the budget was only $6.5 million given how incredible the production looked. One of the most tragic and impactful films I’ve watched and…

Alien: Romulus 2024
This one rocked. Best since the original Alien film imho. The return to the practical effects made a dramatic difference in the quality of the film for the better. Returning to old school monitors and physical buttons in lieu of the holographic futuristic screens of the recent installments Prometheus and Covenant also was beautiful to see. The sets were grandiose and expertly used to the advantage of the story. Finally we get more of the claustrophobic feeling that was so…

The Beekeeper 2024
I loved this mainly because we need more dumb action movies like this. Statham is really the only one I can think of still making bad but fun action flicks like Schwarzenegger did in the 80s, complete with corny one liners and puns. This ruled purely because of that. It was a decent story with a very hateable antagonist which I loved. Everyone can agree scammers who prey on old people are the scum of the earth. Gets a little…

Prometheus 2012
I didn’t hate this as much as a lot of people I know did, but I think most of my issues come from the second half of the film and from the era it was made. I think there were a lot of interesting aspects to the movie, but ultimately it disappointed me because it was an alien movie, almost completely devoid of the titular Xenomorph that haunted audiences for years. The origin story was somewhat interesting, but it for…

Alien 1979
Such a groundbreaking movie. To accomplish what this film does in 1979 is nothing short of a miracle. The sets are stunning, giving you the claustrophobic feeling of what a future blue collar interstellar traveler would experience. Excellent dialogue that seamlessly moves the plot forward and builds the characters. The pacing is incredible, like a roller coaster the viewer follows the ups and downs of the crew. You feel highly tense one moment, then are able to breathe a very…

Cuckoo 2024
I really liked this movie. Original concept with great acting and beautiful shots. I loved the look and feel of the movie being shot on film in a cool location with the hotel feeling almost nostalgic like a dilapidated theme park filled with liminal spaces. It was filled with disturbing and terrifying moments and and continuously had me asking what the fuck as I watched. It was an awesome ride and a great film. We need more fun, original movies like this. Happy that filmmakers are still willing and able to take risks like this and hope to see more of it!

Inglourious Basterds 2009
May ultimately be my favorite Tarantino film. Just so many incredible characters and stories perfectly woven together, amazing acting, cinematography, and music throughout. On top of all that, the nods to the old school classic WW2 movies like The Dirty Dozen just make it extra special. Love this so much top to bottom, it is an absolute must watch.
