Neat companion piece with First Cow. Reichardt, always an astute observer of male friendships and rivalries, foregrounds the wives in this one, who are forced to mostly observe just that. And if the blank state of the frontier in FC was an exciting opportunity for commerce and entrepreneurship, here it's - well, it's only a blank slate, more likely to starve out civilization than foster one.
Could definitely see why both those aspects make this a frustrating watch for some, but together with an extremely strong cast (Williams, Patton, and Greenwood all do great work), I found it a fascinating backdrop to explore the group's power dynamics.
