extremely tragic true story that is treated with respect and empathy in this film. adèle hugo was locked up in a mental institution for the rest of her life and no one ever came to visit her, not even her father. similar thing that happened to camille claudel whom isabelle adjani also played in the eponymous 1988 film (which i have yet to see).

the story of adèle is told in a pretty untraditional way, or at least i feel…

anora is a film that, despite being named after its main character, has no interest in her or in telling her story. despite a spectacular performance by mikey madison and stunning cinematography, the movie failed to enthral me. it’s because it does not give us any insight into who our protagonist is that i just could not be impressed by it. many attempts seem to be made to discuss what sex work does to sex workers, how dehumanised they are,…
