The first time I saw the trailer, I thought it looked like a romcom was stuffed into an action flick. I guess my first impression was right.
The love story was overstuffed. The split-screen scene and the fire stunt* went too long and made the movie feel much longer than it was. Maybe it could have been a tighter 1.5-1.75 hours without it. Kinda funny that I saw a movie that's a half-hour longer right before this that definitely didn't have this problem. Pacing is key, folks!
Action-wise, it was kinda fun. The action was pretty exciting, but I think the extended set-up of Jody and Colt's relationship deflated the movie before it had the chance to get going.
Humor didn't land for me either. I got a few chuckles, but the theater was quiet at every joke.
Well...there's one exception.
Shout-out to the guy behind me. He was clearly having a 7-star experience. He was cracking up at absolutely everything. They didn't even reach the punchline before he started laughing at times. In the moment, it was annoying, but looking back, he was having the time of his life, so I can't be mad that this movie found its audience.
